Kostroma Russian National Ballet presented Russian dance culture in the capital of the UAE.

The world premiere of the Russian National Dance Show took place in the National Theatre of Abu Dhabi and became part of the Global Dance Overture, the interstate cultural and educational project for the BRICS countries.

Among the guests of honour at the event were Sheikh Khalifa Bin Khaled Al Hamed, a member of the Royal Family, Timur Zabirov, the Russian Ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Larisa Zelentsova, President of the International Alliance of BRICS Strategic Projects (BRICS), representatives of the diplomatic missions of Malaysia, South Africa, Indonesia, Nepal, Belarus, Egypt, Serbia, as well as prominent figures of culture and art of the UAE.

The project in the UAE was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Presidential Foundation of Cultural Initiatives, and the Ministry of Culture of the United Arab Emirates.

At the press scrum, the project was described by Elena Tsarenko, president and producer of Kostroma Russian National Ballet: ’We are very happy that today here, in the legendary National Theatre of Abu Dhabi, we can present the Global Dance Overture, the interstate cultural and educational project of the Russian Federation. Art has always been a powerful tool of dialogue, a ‘soft power’ capable of overcoming any borders and differences. Folk dance shows the living history of our countries – how different, yet at the same time, similar people are, and how they express the same emotions and feelings through their dance. This continuity will be demonstrated today by the performance of the UAE folk group. This is the first time they will be bringing their dance culture on stage for the first time, presenting the world-famous Ayyalah Arabian dance. Like the male dance in Russia, it expresses unity, national identity, courage of their people - defenders of their family, land and faith...’.

Timur Zabirov, the Russian Ambassador to Abu Dhabi, spoke at the opening of the show and

Expressed gratitude to the Emirati side for organising and preparing the event. The performance by Kostroma Russian National Ballet will become another step toward progressive development of the multifaceted Russian-Emirati relations, make a significant contribution to further mutual enrichment of cultures and rapprochement between our peoples, contribute to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue in the BRICS area, emphasized the diplomat.

Continuing his speech, the Ambassador read out the welcoming address of Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

‘Human links are an integral part of the multi-faceted cooperation with the BRICS member states. Openhearted and mutually respectful contacts between people add colours to the palette of cooperation and make it brighter and more picturesque. You creative initiative is supposed to contribute to strengthening friendship and trust between our nations and enriching our cultures’, said the Russian Foreign Minister said in his address.

Olga Lyubimova, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, addressed the audience and organisers of the concert in a video.

‘This project, resulting from the Russian presidency in the BRICS, will demonstrate the diversity of each country's traditions through the prism of dance. It will become a symbol of friendship and co-operation with foreign partners, the desire to search for unifying principles, and will strengthen intercultural dialogue…’

‘We are used to perceiving Russian culture through Pushkin, Dostoevsky and Chekhov, but this show opens Russia to people of other cultures in a new way. It was a wonderful experience for me to see the story of Russia told through the language of dance’, - shared his impressions of the concert the well-known

Emirati artist Mohammed Abdel Shafi.

At the end of the performance, the audience gave an ovation to the dancers of Kostroma Russian National Ballet and the performers of the Ayyalah Emirati dance, which was a proof of the successful creative interaction aimed at establishing friendship between peoples.

After the United Arab Emirates, the Global Dance Overture project will later be joined by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and China.
