The creative meeting was a real celebration of friendship between peoples, where dance played the main unifying role. It was attended by dancers from 10 countries of the world - students of the choreography department and other faculties of the Sharjah Academy of Arts from Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Great Britain, USA, Egypt and Russia, as well as the performers of the project – students of the Governorate Ballet School choreography college and its graduates – dancers of ‘Kostroma Russian National Ballet.
The cultural exchange of the two professional schools took place owing to the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the Ministry of Culture of the United Arab Emirates and the Sharjah Performing Arts Academy.
The first part of the event included a presentation of the Russian folk choreography dance school. In it, Maria VESHKINA, the director of the Governorate Ballet School choreographic college told about the peculiarities of the system of professional education in Russia, the history and the origin of folk stage dance, the structure of the lesson, as well as the process of training professional dancers in the Governorate Ballet School choreographic college.
During the open demonstration of the lesson ‘folk and stage dance’ students of the Academy of Arts saw not only familiar elements of classical dance, but also to hear unusual Russian names of technical elements Verevochka (Rope), Motalochk (spins)i, Drobi (taps), clappers, raznozhka (splits), kosа (a type of shuffle), shchuchka (upward jump), polzunok (squat movements) and much more.
The bright culmination of the demo was a fragment of the Festive composition’ performed by the main cast of Kostroma Russian National Ballet.
Immediately after the demo, Irina RUBTSOVA, an instructor of the College, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, held a workshop in Russian dance for the students of the Sharjah Academy of Arts. With great pleasure, they learnt the movements they had just seen, the basic moves in pairs and even the spoon beat, which aroused special interest and joy among the participants.
One workshop was followed by the other. Swapping places, the Academy students held a cross master class on Syrian dance for the Russian dancers. The dancers of Kostroma Ballet enthusiastically learnt and performed together with their instructors a combination of bright, cheerful Syrian dance.
The meeting ended with the rehearsal and joint performance of the Round Dance of Friendship international flash mob, designed to unite the hearts of people in all BRICS countries through kindness, love and the language of dance - the carriers of the cultural code of the people, their originality and national identity.
In turn, college director Maria VESHKINA invited the Academy students to an internship in Kostroma, which will be held as part of the International Creative dacha cultural and educational project, and also gave each participant of the meeting an international certificate of attendance of a workshop iin Russian dance.
