Global Dance Overture in Beijing!

On October 30, the Lyric Theatre of the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre hosted the main event of the Global Dance Overture cultural and educational project in the BRICS countries. The project that runs from October 29 to 31 in China is supported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, and the Russian Embassy in Beijing.

Kostroma Russian National Ballet presented the Russian National Dance Show which introduces residents of the BRICS countries to the deep roots and folk traditions of Russia through the dance of this multinational state.

Guests at the performance included high-ranking representatives of the State Council and the Communist Party of China, diplomatic missions from various countries, the Beijing dance community, and residents of the city.

At a press conference, Natalia Stepkina, Counselor and Envoy of the Russian Embassy in the People's Republic of China; Tatyana Urzhumtseva, Director of the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing; Mr. Zha Longhao, Lecturer in the Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance Department at the Beijing Dance Academy; and Elena Tsarenko, President of Kostroma Russian National Ballet and initiator of the Global Dance Overture project, spoke about the significance of the project in developing cultural and educational ties between Russia and China.

Before the performance, Natalia Stepkina, Counselor and Envoy of the Russian Embassy in the People's Republic of China, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech: "It is especially significant that this event is taking place during the Cross-cultural Years of Russia and China, the grand opening of which took place last May in the presence of the leaders of our countries. I am confident that the Kostroma Ballet's Beijing tour will be a highlight of the cross-year calendar and will further contribute to strengthening the cultural and humanitarian ties between our countries”.

On this day, representatives of two dance cultures met on the stage of the Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre. For the first time, the China Oriental Performing Arts Group, which has recently amazed audiences at the Chekhov Festival with its performance of "Poetic Dance: Journey of the Legendary Landscape" in Moscow, participated in the Russian National Dance Show. In this performance, woven from the fabric of various peoples of Russia, the company, as the host, presented the "Impressions of China" dance

At the end of the performance, symbolizing successful creative collaboration aimed at establishing friendship between peoples, dancers from Russia and China combined the best elements of their folk dance cultures in a joint finale. This unique performance emphasized the shared values and the peoples' desire for peace, harmony, and cooperation, embodying the true spirit of international cultural dialogue.
