A workshop on Russian folk dance was held at the Egyptian Academy of Arts.

The event was held as part of the Global Dance Overture, the international cultural and educational project of Kostroma Russian National Ballet in the BRICS countries. The event in Egypt was supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of Egypt, the Embassy of Russia in the Republic of Egypt and Rossotrudnichestvo.

For the first time in the post-Soviet period, Cairo became a platform for cultural exchange between Egypt and Russia in professional folk choreography.

After 34 years, representatives of two dance schools met again on the banks of the Nile.

A truly significant event opened a new page in the history of cultural ties between Russia and Egypt, which enabled representatives of both countries to demonstrate the unique features of their traditions, enrich each other with new knowledge and inspiration, strengthen friendly ties between peoples. It will open up prospects for the further development of joint projects and initiatives in diplomacy.

The educational part of the project from the Russian side was presented by students of the Governorate Ballet School choreographic college at Kostroma Russian National Ballet and by dancers of the Ballet.
From the Egyptian side, students of the Institute of Ballet of the Egyptian Academy of Arts took part in the project.
During the demo show, students of the Egyptian Academy of Arts learned that the exercise of folk-stage dance is based on classical movements, that unusual names such Verevochka (Rope), Motalochka (spins)i, Drobi (taps), clappers, raznozhka (splits), kosа (a type of shuffle), shchuchka (upward jump), polzunok (squat movements) and much more."Rope", "Window", "Fragments", "Clappers", "Raznozhka", "Scythe", "Pike", "Crawler" are traditional technical elements of Russian dance.

A bright culmination of the show was a fragment of the Festive dance piece performed by the main cast of Kostroma Russian National Ballet.

Immediately after the presentation, Irina RUBTSOVA, the collegeinstructor, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, held a workshop in Russian dance for students of the Egyptian Academy of Arts. With great pleasure, the dancers learned the traditional Russian bow, the movements of the Russian dance they had just seen, tapping, the main moves in pairs, as well as a fragment of the final combination from the Festive choreographic piece, which aroused particular interest and joy among the participants.

One workshop was followed by another. Having swapped places, students of the Egyptian Academy of Arts showed Saidi, the Egyptian male dance with sticks, to the Russian dancers and held a cross workshop, where the Russian dancers were able to learn the traditional movements of Egyptian dance.

The meeting ended with the study and joint performance of the Round Dance of Friendship interethnic flash mob, designed to unite the hearts of people from all BRICS countries through kindness, love and the language of dance – bearers of the cultural code of the people, their originality and national identity.

In turn, Maria VESHKINA, the college director invited the students of the Academy to an internship in Kostroma, which will take place as part of the International Creative Dacha cultural and educational project. Mrs Veshkina also presented each participant with an international certificate of completion of the workshop in Russian dance.
"We hope that very soon the Round Dance of Friendship will unite all the BRICS countries," Elena Tsarenko , the president of Kostroma balle said to the participants.
