The Global Dance Overture project by Kostroma Russian National Ballet in BRICS countries became the winner of the grant contest organized by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
In 2025, the Global Dance Overture will take place in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and China; in 2026 – in Brazil, India, Ethiopia and South Africa.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
The grant was requested to implement The Global Dance Overture, the cultural and educational project aimed at uniting people of the BRICS countries on the grounds of common cultural and humanitarian values. Its innovativeness lies not only in introducing foreign audiences to the uniqueness and diversity of Russian folk dance culture, but also in the cross-cultural study of each other's dance culture within the framework of a large-scale educational programme that will contribute to the formation of a global choreographic community. The Alliance of BRICS Folk Dance will become an effective tool of such interaction. The protocol on the establishment of which was signed by the BRICS Culture Ministers at the Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg.
During the cultural exchange in the countries participating in the project, the Russian National Show will be presented, cross-cultural workshops will be held and the International Creative Dacha educational programme will be presented. As part of the cultural exchange, children, teenagers and students from the BRICS countries will be able to come to the ancient Russian city of Kostroma for an internship to learn the basics of Russian dance, as well as to present folk culture of their countries.
Thus, the Ballet aims to unite the hearts of people from different countries of the world through love and kindness and the language of dance that are the most accessible and understandable means to convey the cultural code of the people, their uniqueness and national identity.
The international cultural exchange will result in the BRICS Folk Dance Culture Festival, scheduled for 2026.
"Our project, The Global Dance Overture, is a contribution to the universal cause of peace, to strengthening the "cultural bridge" between peoples, built on unique traditions, customs, values, mutual understanding and social unity of different ethnic groups. Through the richness of dance cultures we show how different and, at the same time, similar people are, how people of various countries of the world express the same emotions and feelings through their dance. We hope that every participant of this project will feel part of a large family and of common world culture", - says Elena Tsarenko, the producer of the project.
